Steel Casting- Shell Mold Casting Vs Investment Casting

When customer sends us an RFQ, we think about all the options we can offer to make sure we provide quotation that meets our customer’s best interest. The question we got asked the most is what the difference between two casting methods. Today I will talk a little bit about steel casting, the most two common methods we used are shell mold casting and investment casting:

Shell mold casting:

Pros:

• Faster production time
• Lower unit price

Cons:

• Rougher surface
• Higher tooling cost
• More blisters

Investment Casting

Pros:

• Smoother surface
• Lower Tooling Cost

Cons:

• Higher unit price
• Longer production time
